pro-se right (Do-it-yourself legal representation)

A pro-se right generally refers to the right that a legal entity (like a person or corporation) has to represent itself in a court of law, most often in a litigation situation.  However, the right can also refer to any kind of self-representation in legal or regulatory matters.  The right to represent yourself in the US actually pre-dates the Constitution.  The Supreme Court has noted "the right of self-representation has been protected by statute since the beginnings of our Nation. Section 35 of the Judiciary Act of 1789, 1 Stat. 73, 92, enacted by the First Congress and signed by President Washington one day before the Sixth Amendment was proposed, provided that 'in all the courts of the United States, the parties may plead and manage their own causes personally or by the assistance of counsel."

At Early Stage Legal, we believe in helping customers solve their legal needs in the most effective and efficient way possible.  For many, if not most people, this entails a combination of pro-se representation in basic simple legal areas (like company formation) and working with lawyers in more complicated areas.  Drawing the line involves looking at the party's economic and legal circumstances.  Early Stage Legal stands ready to help you create your own legal documents and regulatory filings.
