limited partners
Investment firms, like venture capital firms, typically raise most of their money from larger institutions like banks, insurance companies, pension plans, university endowments, family offices or large non-profit organizations. These investors become limited partners in the investment fund. Industry participants will often refer to them as "limiteds" for short. As in, "our limiteds expect us to focus solely on technology investments so unfortunately we can't invest in your manufacturing business no matter how compelling the opportunity is."
